Is your son/daughter sitting for the 'O' Level English Language Exam on 24 October and still struggling to figure out how to answer comprehension and summary writing questions at this late stage?

If so, we can help. We have pre-'O' Levels English Language Workshops (1 - 8 October) to give your child a last-minute boost:

(1) Unravelling the Mysteries of the Written Word - Module 1 (4 October)
This is a highly interactive workshop covering all 8 types of comprehension questions, and paying particular attention to Language Use for Impact Questions.

(2) Unravelling the Mysteries of the Written Word - Module 1a (1 Oct)
This is a hands-on 'O' Level comprehension workshop covering the 3 most difficult question types: Inferential, Use Your Own Words and Language Use for Impact Questions.

Students will get to tackle exercises on their own before the answers are discussed so that they will learn what their weaknesses are and how to avoid making such mistakes in the future. They will be taught how to answer these questions effectively; they will also learn the thought processes that they need to go through to come up with good answers.

(3) Unravelling the Mysteries of the Written Word - Module 5 (1 Oct)

This is a Comprehension + Summary Skills Crash Course. This workshop will be particularly useful for students who have difficulty answering Language Use for Impact and Use Your Own Words questions, and have little idea how to cut down the number of words or write fluent and effective summaries.

(4) Unravelling the Mysteries of the Written Word - Module 1b (8 Oct - 2 sessions)

This is brand new hands-on Comprehension workshop designed to give students pre-'O' Level exam practice, allowing them to hone their skills in answering Inferential, Language Use for Impact and Use Your Own Words questions. Pre-Sec 1 Information Sessions for P6 Parents

Postby LanglitEnglish » Wed Oct 26, 2016 5:13 pm

Calling parents of current P6 students!

If you're wondering if there is vast difference between PSLE and 'O' Level English, the answer is a resounding YES!

Many students struggle with comprehension and summary questions in Sec 1, and for quite a number of students, these problems stay with them till the year they sit for their 'O' Levels.

If you are a parent who is actively involved in your child's schooling, you may wish to attend our Post-PSLE / Pre-Sec 1 Information Session ("From PSLE to 'O' Level English: A Quantum Leap") .

This Information Session is specially designed for P6 parents who would like to find out the similarities and differences between PSLE and 'O' Level English, and more importantly, how they can help their children to prepare for Sec 1 English Language Lessons.

The speaker, Mrs Marife Cruz Yap, is the author of Distinction in English - 'O' Level Comprehension and Distinction in English -- Lower Secondary Comprehension (published by Marshall Cavendish Education), and is a very experienced 'O' Level English Language Trainer whose workshops are attended by students and teachers alike.

And to help P6 students to prepare for Sec 1 English Language Lessons, Marife Yap will be conducting some English Language Bridging courses during the school holidays. The schedule for these workshops will be released on our website.

The schedule and other details of the Information Sessions for parents are given in the attached flyer. If you are unable to attend on these dates, don't worry -- we will be scheduling more sessions in the near future. Watch out for updates on our website: http://www.langlit.com

Re: Why Put Your Teenager in Tuition Classes for English?

Postby LanglitEnglish » Fri Jan 20, 2017 9:41 pm

Why Take Tuition for English?

If your teenager is not doing well in English comprehension and summary writing even though you have hired a private tutor, or have signed him/her up for tuition classes, it could be because he/she does not have an overview of the kinds of questions that can be found in the comprehension paper, and is not armed with the skills to tackle them.

It would therefore be good to put your child through enrichment courses that help him/her understand the requirements of each question type, and equip him/her with techniques to tackle the questions. Then the tuition classes will be more effective.

We conduct such courses for secondary school students. Please visit our website for details: http://www.langlit.com
