Re Ang Mo Kio branch. I’ve to say the programme is pretty good. I’ve left the center to explore other tuition but still come back to Pslemath again. I still find their Programme is the best. It is very systematic in delivery . Concepts to be taught are very well defined and taught in a spiral manner. You have to see it to know what I mean . I spoke to a teacher Jason. He is better in explaining how the system work . He is based in Marine Parade though.

The long time Teachers at Ang Mo Kio are Rachael , Sze boon, Xinrong and Rebecca . There are a few others , I’ve seen them around but didn’t get to know their names. They are all very dedicated.

Hope the info help.

Hi, Can I ask between Onsponge katong And Jei Marine Parade, which is a better class for a high ability student?

My son has been doing very well but his current tuition class teacher is very fierce , i want him to be stretched but he must also not lose interest and be demotivated.

Hi,

My dd and ds didn’t attend onsponge before so I can’t reallu compare. However, my thoughts is , if the programme works maybe should continue with it.

I know the MP Teachers well as I’ve been with them since preschool. The upper primary Teachers are usually more strict than the lower primary except for Jason. If your Son is familiar and comfortable with their methodologies it’s better to stick with it. Maybe change another teacher ?

Since u mentioned your son doing very well currently at his Maths tuition centre, just stick to it, just change to another less fierce Teacher, will solve yr problem.

At p5, so late already, better dont anyhow change tuition centre, in case it doesnt work out. You cannot turn the clock backwards, if u make mistake. Time and tide doesnt wait.

Also, different Maths tuition centre use different method to teach Upper primary p5/p6 students. If u change centre like that, it may not suit your son.

if u want to see what kind of method, "PSLE method" used at Marine Parade is teaching her
p5 and p6 students, u can just visit the centre, ask them to show u a sample of their p5 students weekly, regular worksheets.

zoom into their detailed breakdown of so-called "5 step" method (their own in-house developed methodology by their founder Jason" ), or workings shown inside the student's weekly wksheets first, see if you (parent) and your p5 son are comfortable with their method used, in the first case. If not comfortable, dont take "psle method" tuition centre.

Why ?

because not all P5 students are comfortable with "psle method".

After do this, repeat the same steps, with "On-sponge" tuition centre.
Reason being :
what works well with one child, may not be suitable, for another kid.

So, u have to go through above steps, in order to find the right Maths tuition centre for your son, at P5 level, just merely next year to PSLE August 2019. (one year, 5 months, from today) You can't afford to make mistake, due to lack of time.

if all else fail, just stick back to your son's current tuition centre, change to a less fierce Teacher, so as not to scold him, if he doesn't understand p5 concepts, not to de-motivate him, stress him.

For your info, for P5 students, the branches at "Psle maths " Ang mo kio & Kovan are full house. There are some p5 students on wait list, this being a crucial year towards PSLE 2019 next year.

As for Marine Parade branch, besides Jason (founder), the next most senior Tr is Mr Ox. But he has far too many P5 students, currently on weekend.

may read sharing of some P5 parents here, ano thread :-

Thanks so much for your helpful advise! Indeed, ur apprach makes sense- I have already visited the Onsponge centre first, as schoool also uses Onsponge as supplemental worksheets..

The prob is there is no choice to move to an alternative teacher for the current Math tuition. Its the founders twacher who is demanding too!!

But will sew how it goes as long as my son understands her. Will get him to be relaxed n thickskinned. She just likes the kids to try the really difficult probs on their own, n gets upset if they ask parents.
So that causes some tension! :)

PSLE Math is of the utmost importance for my boy. He is not getting enough out of his tuition class. Could anyone recommend books for getting the needed skills for PSLE Math?

I've personally witnessed the struggles of my boy last year. Recommended by his math teacher, I used some fan math p5 and p6 assessment books. First, teach n learn to identify weaker topics and concepts he was facing, then process skills for problem solving strategies and higher order thinking qns. A few months before prelim, I used mathexpress to train his accuracy and speed. Finally fan math prelim papers for mastery psle examination techniques. He achieved 2 grades jump in psle math!
