Now that PSLE is over, I have the time to write about my kids' tuition with Leaping Math.

My children are all from Tao Nan. They all started with a big brand tuition centre but I decided to switch to Mrs Lee 3 years ago on recommendation from a friend. The eldest scored an A star for Maths at PSLE (and for prelims he scored a 99, beating many who were olympiad winners). I believe Mrs Lee trained the students well. My 2 younger ones are also with the centre and they have also done remarkably well in Maths, with my second child getting a prize for topping the class.

This year's Tao Nan P6 prize winners from many classes are all from Leaping Math. In fact Tao Nan top scorer for PSLE was also taught by Mrs Lee. I understand from another parent that Ngee Ann top scorer was also taught by Mrs Lee. These are testaments of the centre's expertise in the teaching of primary school maths.

Huh? Thought these days schools are not allowed to disclose Psle score and top scorer? Tao nan and Ngee ann shouldn't do that. They are probably doing something not allowed by MOE. School should not be celebrating top scorers publicly. Competing on scores is unhealthy competitive culture.

I do not believe tao nan or any schools will disclose the top scorer. Promotion messages in the forum should always be read with some skepticism. In saying that, top scorer results could be due to other subjects beside math. To link everything to a math tuition centre is obviously a promotion stunt.

Principal might not have announced the top scorer. It is the grapevine which you cannot stop. Parents digging information from their kids or others' kids. Very soon, the top scorer is made known to the whole school.

Likewise, we must take those who are sceptical about good reviews with a pinch of salt as they may be other tuition providers
