ICAS - International Competitions and Assessments for Schools conducted by the University of New South Wales, Australia.

This is a series of tests organised by some schools:

Computer Skills P 2 – Sec 3
Science P 2 – JC 1
Writing P 2 – JC 1
English P 2 – JC 1
Mathematics P 2 – JC 1

Here's their website: http://www.eaa.unsw.edu.au/

Now that the dust has settled for PSLE Maths, how about some challenging ICAS Maths for educators and students to solve.

This is qn 39 from ICAS2009 P6 of which only 5 percent of those taking the paper got it right.

This is Qn40 and only 1% got it correct.

I remember this question clearly. Many students got the wrong answer (only 7% correct) as they did not realise that the diagrams were drawn TO SCALE. The correct answer is B. A is incorrect as the height is lower the the cylinder; C is incorrect as its height is more than half the height of the cylinder.

In that year for P5, the highest scorers (i.e. medal winners) got 39/40, all thanks to this question.

Hi Sleepy,

The results were out last Saturday. You don't have to wait for your dd's school to tell you the results. To check your dd's results, just login to the ICAS Online - myICAS website using your TAP-ID and PIN. The website and your dd's ID and PIN can be found on the result slip (the one which indicates the score, and analysis by qeustion) of any past ICAS competitions that your dd had taken.

Cheers.
