Not insulting. My son only learnt timetable towards end of K2!! I emphasized literacy instead, now regretted. Find his mental calculation is slow :slapshead: Thus you see I started my DD early :boogie: cannot 重蹈覆辙

hey no lah...just teasing u...am complimenting ur bright DC and ur good guidance :=) mental calculation can be built up later i suppose. :rahrah:
btw, how come your DD memo 6X and not the easier 5X? It's an odd no. to rem subconsciously...is it becos of the clock?!

I played CD for them! That was why I said subconsciously. Lol. Maybe she finds 6x song more catchy? My DS keep telling me he doesn't like music but whenever come to CDs (songs/audio books), he can memo lightning fast. For the same songs we listened together, he picked up faster than me. 我不认老都不行。

Hi lovinglife, what is the CD that your kids is listening that teaches multiplication? Is that from kumon also?

My gal is in K2, planning to start her with kumon.
Do they teach them multiplication or it's pure memorizing?

Thanks.

Hi, My DD is in P1 now. Thinking that Chinese kumon is doing worksheet in daily basis, will she be able to manage the time after the CCA in school started? Despite of revises and homework, spelling from school.

Hi, any reviews on Serangoon Gardens branch? How's the teachers? I'm interested in enrolling my K1 daughter for the Math classes. Is it compulsory to attend twice a week? Or is there an option to go once a week instead?

Thanks!

Feedback on Kumon at Lichfield Road

Postby gabbygrace16 » Thu Oct 09, 2014 3:26 pm

Hi
I am thinking of registering my child at the Kumon at Lichfield Road. I am reaching out to parents whose kids are currently there or were there. My child will be at P3 in 2015. She is pretty poor in her math concepts.
Just need some feedback on the quality of the teachers at the centre for maths.
please email me at joyce.chew@se1.bp.com

Thanks

Joyce

No clear criteria for progressing in Kumon

Postby totorosy » Thu Oct 09, 2014 5:45 pm

My friend just told me she's pulling her kid out from Kumon math because she thinks it's a waste of time. They are making her son repeat the same worksheets over and over with no clear criteria why he is repeating them. Apparently, the boy is able to complete the worksheets independently at home and at the centre, yet he is being asked to repeat the worksheets week after week. Obviously, they will see improvement in his speed but how fast is fast enough? How many mistakes is acceptable? The teacher is not able to give a satisfactory answer. I'm now having doubts whether I should enroll my kid as well. Any parents share the same thoughts? I browsed through their website but I could not really get any answers.

Hi All,
I am new here and would like to have some feedbacks from you all.
Currently my 4 year old boy is doing 3 now, addition.

All along his focus skills is not good, but I still manage to make him finish his homework everyday (But in centre he is relactant to do) and last week, the teacher in charge suddently came out of the centre.

She told me sorry if I would like to withdraw my boy out of the centre which was not in my mind. Probably my boy was really very in-cooperative and reluctant but as a working mum, I did my best by preserving, doing a 10 mins homework with him everyday after a hectic working hours. Now, this main branch teacher lost faith with him? He barely join during march 14 and I am very disappointed with this teacher as there was an incidence I saw, wanted to reject another boy with a very invalid reason I've seen so far ( thank god this boy is still in centre then)

Teacher mention that he do not have the attitude.

Before I enroll to kumon. She is the one that says we have to be persistent when teaching them kumon method. Yesterday, she rejected my boy. She say she have already tried many methods but didn't work out.

I actually talk to a teacher and she suggested me to talk to the management. Before that, I asked her to give him more time as he is only 4 years old and barely in the centre for a year. I believed different kids have their different time to settle down and not that he is not progressing well.

Perhaps a week for two lesson could not let my boy settle down in such a classroom style and I seek help from the teacher and give her suggestion for cutting down the pages in centre and giving more work at home so that he like to go to centre better. I am finding many ways to make this boy have more positive attitude but I do not know why teacher give up a student so easily?

Am I asking too much or?

I actually wrote to the management and the chief manager met me for some explanation and this teacher, tell me she want to take back the words she said to me.

She is worry that he will be stuck at level 3 for long ( he only left two worksheets) and might not able to go through next step due to his behaviour and attitude when he did his HW in the centre...

What should I do?

Try another Kumon centre, that got patient Tr, for a second opinion of your child.

You may try Kumon (Novena) branch.
The Tr there teaching pre-school kids are gentle, kind, patient, encouraging.

If the other centre give the same opinion as this first centre, perhaps Kumon method may not be suitable, for your child. In which case, you may try other non Kumon method instead.

Every child learns differently.
