Didn't know that their passing mark is so high. Iirc, my ds got 43/50. Lost most of the marks due to carelessness - as usual.Dec wrote: Thanks for your reply:) I'm shocked to hear that too!! He scored 28/50 and their passing rate is 38/50. The receptionist advised her to send her DS for 1-1 tuition. I think that their standard is quite high and they are very strict with their in-take of students.
Iirc, it was 40 MCQ (1 mark each) and 5 OE questions (2 marks each). Can't remember what those OE questions were as they only allowed me to take a glance. I have the impression that they were quite strict on the OE question marking - they don't give sympathy marks. Good luck.Clarie79 wrote: What kind of questions do they ask in the placement test? Just want to say that my ds enjoys the lessons and is learning well; mainly because he clicks with the T and the programme suits him. However - if you intend to enrol - every child is different so please monitor your own kid for one term and see whether this ctr is also good for yours.

Thanks markfch! Gosh I think it's 凶多吉沙 for her. She is quite weak in her grammar.
Re: Creative Horizon at Palais Renaissance - English Enrichm
What are OE questions? And will we know the results on the spot?
Re: Creative Horizon at Palais Renaissance - English Enrichm
Hi Claire,
Yup, the good thing is you know the outcome on the spot. So whether go or no go, you are able to plan ahead. I know that the MCQ also test vocab, but for the OE questions, sorry I really can't remember. Maybe those whose kids took the test recently can comment.
I feel that CH is but one of the many good ctrs available. I sing their praises just because ds enjoys himself there. Another forummer may have another good ctr to recommend. So worse comes to worst, it's still no big deal in the end. So don't worry too much.

Re: Creative Horizon at Palais Renaissance - English Enrichm
Has anyone attended their holiday programs before?
If yes, please advise what is being covered since it's only for 6 lessons.
Also, which program is suitable for a P3 (in 2012)?

Hi ASLMUM,
as far as I know, for vocabulary building, CH does it through sample pieces called - in house material for their lessons. The new idioms or expressions or difficult words are introduced in context. It's rare that you see word lists given to the students without any explanation.
They are taught how to search the context for clues for Cloze Passages as well and the students are taught a mnemonic device to help remember the different kinds of clues to be aware of/look out for for Cloze.
To allcc6,
If you're talking about current holiday courses in November and December: they have Active Reading, StoryWriter and Writing Craft. These are 3 different courses.
StoryWriter is on narrative ideas. Writing Craft is on non-narrative writing- like instruction lists, dialogue between two people. The first is useful for the storyline compos the students need to do in school. The second one is good for things like situational writing, even argumentative, logical thinking -which they will have more of in upper primary and definitely the foundation for secondary.
Active Reading is a course where they have to read two to three books before coming for the lessons. Then in lessons, the teacher will explore themes, setting, vocabulary and plot with them. I found out about this from another parent who sent her ds there last June holiday. He did a scrapbook on the books he read so he enjoyed the activities. Am thinking of trying out this course because the recep said this one is good for kids who don't read enough.
You mentioned P3 in 2012: The courses run only for the June and Dec break. They don't have holiday courses in March. September courses are different in focus. They have something called Exam Focus for the last minute revision before exams and Reading Right which is compre
