Toddlers pronounciation

Postby sean wife » Tue Dec 14, 2010 4:33 pm

Hi,

Anyone with 3-4 years old kids having difficulty pronouncing certain words or sounds?? I notice that my gals (3 yrs 3 months) old can’t pronounce ‘small’ properly, always end up like ‘ fall’ or ‘mall’…they have no problem with the ‘sss’ sound and other words starting with ‘s’ such ‘socks’, ‘shirt’ etc. When I try to emphasize the ‘s’ sound, they will repeat by breaking up the 2 word into 2 parts i.e. ‘s’ ‘fall’…

Not sure if it’s cause for concern now and whether therapy or intervention is needed at this stage...according to their teachers, their language ability is quite advanced, and they also never highlight that they see this as a problem…

Thanks.

Hi sean_wife,
My girl used to have more serious problems compared to your gals. Now she speaks like a bullet train and her pronunciation is fine. So don't worry. Your gals are still very young, they should improve when they grow older.
