I think they will be assessed on
1. word pronouciation
2. eye contact
3. body language

P1 Show & Tell

Postby buds » Tue Feb 22, 2011 11:25 pm

Heyya blur mother, i had some sharings on Show & Tell
preparations at this link here. > P1 Show & Tell.

Assessment on show & tell from what i understand are as follows.

1.Clarity and pronunciation

2.Content and flow of ideas
(in relevance to topic)

3.Gung-ho-ness or confidence level

4.Eye-contact with audience
(watch that posture too!)

5.Presentation skills (overall)

Hope this helps. :celebrate:

Thanks buds for sharing. :salute:

That example is nice. You've mentioned about the "cue cards". can the children really use it in the class when presenting the real show n tell?
my girl is in P2, and she is not good in putting adjectives and phrases to the sentences when talking. last year when she was in p1 I really made her to memorise word by word.

Cue Cards

Postby buds » Wed Feb 23, 2011 12:24 pm

You're welcome, plum-cake.

The article i shared was on the preparation process.
The cue cards were what we used at home for our
own practice. On the actual day of the Show and
Tell session, it is supposed to be spontaneous.

If you added more adjectives into the content, my
tip would be for your child to remember the points
first... which she can do in short phrases... once
she managed to memorize them... then can go
into complete sentences...

That said, preparations must be made in advance
so that she has ample time to memorize as much
content as possible. Use her own ideas as much
as possible for it will be easier for her to recall
them as compared to if the content was entirely
ours. Hope this helps. :celebrate:

DD in P2 just did her english and chinese show and tell these 2 weeks. They are allowed to refer to their notes during the show and tell. They are expected to come up with about 10 sentences related to the topic. They are graded on the areas that Buds has mentioned.

Diction, clarity, intonation
Content (relevance and flow)
Engagement (eye contact, captivate audience)

To help DD prepare, I told her to remember her 5W1H. Based on that she will already have minimum of 6 sentences. At times, we will use mindmapping before going into sentences, that will help give more ideas to talk about.

I am limited in my mother tongue so to help her I had to resort to getting her to plan her chinese show and tell in english first, thereafter we translate it into chinese.

Once she has it written out, she will practice in front of the mirror. She will also record herself on her ipod touch and play it back to see if her presentation is smooth.
