There should be quite many at the recent Bookfest@Suntec. Did you go? I bought over 100 Chinese storybooks from Bookfest 2 years ago.

Otherwise, buy from Lingzi Media. Some Lingzi pubs can be found at selected larger Popular bookstores.

Hard to recommend HCL storybooks to people. You need to vet those books yourself and gauge DC's std/interest in whichever genre. I also buy Chinese comic books for my dc. And I usually drop those with female protagonists/heroines.

No, unfortunately I didn't go down to Bookfest this year. Thanks for recommending Lingzi.

I'm curious. Why do you drop stories with female protagonists?

Are E-books included?

WaWaYaYa (ex-Creative Technology product) not provides story books app which is available for free in Playstore. We can download some books for free, and some chargeable. It's an e-book with audio; you can opt to play or to read-it-yourself.

Thank you for your recommendation. :D

I would look out for all these books. BTW, DD had read the 还珠格格 part 1 - book 2 (水深火热) while watching the VCD during March. Now she is waiting to see the 还珠格格 part 2 after the examination. All these Chinese shows came with only Chinese Sub title and she has no choice but to see the words if she can’t understand sometime what they were saying.

I had a series of 卫斯理 science fiction by 倪匡; she has chosen the book 老猫 for a try. As for 金庸, may start with the 倚天屠龙记(苏有朋主演)since she likes 五阿哥. Then slowly follow by 射鵰英雄傳 shows and their books etc. I hope she can enjoy all these interesting shows/books and her CL standard can be even better than today.

Hi Brenda,
IMHO for girls, 亦舒 books are better than 琼瑶 (author of 还珠格格) Though I also read all of 琼瑶 books, she is a good writer, but her female characters are too weak (dependent on men).

I have read over 200+ books written by 亦舒. I love her style, plain, simple and straightforward. Her female characters are modern, strong and independent. She wrote quite a few novels which are not love stories, suitable for kids in early teens.

I hope all parents teach their kids (10 years and above) to read 金庸 novels, these books are transformational.
琼瑶's books mostly have a lot of problems when it comes to morals. I still can remember that really horrible line saying that: You merely lost a leg! She lost her romance. (I translated it) So, I personally hate her books.

I would recommend visiting http://ww.echineselearning.com, they have a number of free Chinese ebooks available to download. There is also a blog section that covers vocabulary, grammar and pronunciation for all learning levels.I would highly recommend that if you are going to begin your Mandarin studies, investing in a teacher is the best option. It will ensure that you are learning not only efficiently, but also correctly.

Mastering tones and pronunciation is the hardest step for a beginner so check out eChineseLearning’s free trial lesson to see if their teachers can assist you :)

Good Luck! :imanangel:
