CHANGING 2ND LANGUAGE TO A NON MOTHER TONGUE

Postby Angullia78 » Thu Mar 08, 2012 7:01 pm

Im wondering if there is a possibility to change my daughter's 2nd language to be a non native tongue. She is currently in Primary 1 and is taking Malay as her 2nd language. She had grown to learn Chinese as a 2nd language back in childcare centre and seems interested in learning more of the language.

Is it too late to change the 2nd language to Chinese and how do we go about to doing so?

Hi,

My daughter is also taking chinese as her mother tongue even though it is not our MT also.

Like your DD my DD1 also learned chinese during her nursery and kindergarten. So we asked the teacher during P1 school orientation.

They gave me a form to fill up giving reasons for appealing to choose chinese as mother tongue. Once you fill up this form, the school will appeal to MOE on your behalf. if your case is strong, then you MOE will approve.

My DD1 is now in P2 and is in the best class for chinese. If your DD is passionate about it, its never too late to catch up :)

All the best to your DD and you!

Hi
Thank you for the info! How strong should the case be?

How strong? am not sure how to define this..
If your child and you are going to be committed 100%, what else is there to prove that you want to learn chinese...?

Speak to the school principle and work from there.
