:thankyou: lee_yl

sean wife, could you share your experience/knowledge wrt/of HuaCheng?

(1) What is the difficulty level of their compo materials/model compos (~WLC or easier)?
(2) How do they conduct compo class (more tutor guided progression for the body content as compared to WLC)? One topic per week?
(3) And are their handouts more comprehensive than WLC (well-organised thematically)?
:thankyou: in advance. :please:

I don’t read what my kids write in detail. But hua Cheng is definitely less guided. I think the teacher goes through the broad storyline with some phrases and the kids will need to write their own zuowen. Also not required to write 2nd drafts. Some parents may feel such approach don’t seem to teach much and maybe less improvement compared to the much more guided compo at Wang. I guess most important is still whether the kid is willing or like to go for the lesson or not. Frankly even if the model compositions are impressive, I think those zuowen which are pinned on Wang’s notice board after each term mock test are not of that standard. Sorry can’t really provide much comparison coz tbh, I hardly go through their materials.

Dear all,

Thanks a lot for all the encouragements and help! My DC is currently in Busy Bee as couldn't get a place in Wang. She commented that those difficult words learnt are of no use and not related to what she is learning in school. I did break down the spelling into a few days but she rather spend her time on her favourite subjects and reading story books.

Hello Mrs Ang, I'd think group tuition (under a strict tutor) works better for reluctant learners - they can't get away by throwing tantrums. Did you manage to get a place with WLC?

Sky Minecrafter, I couldn't get a place with WLC thus enrolled with Busy Bee. Does WLC has strict tutor?

汪老师 curriculum definitely follow closely to MOE & textbook syllabus, and their lists are taught to kids to apply to 作文, 口试, 理解问答, etc with a few extra words for other kids who can cope with learning abit more to apply.

Whilst I'd advise parents use materials to revise, I'll also encourage that parents batch similar types of topics & try to teach kids to move into applying to similar genre of topics to write their own 作文 or use these words for 口试.

I don't see why kids cannot use words they learn and if it's written similarvto other kids, so be it. The difference then will be how much ideas the kid has learnt to generate by themselves to distinguish fr copy work. It has to start somewhere to guide kids & that's the rudiments of 汪 structure. However, most parents may not hv taken opportunities to revise further to coach kids to go beyond the model essay / suggested style.

Of course, if the child is not learning words related to their level based on MOE syllabus, then parents shld reconsider better options. To be fair, I've not seen Busy Bees' coverage & cannot comment. I'll suggest if yr child made that claim, help to verify what the child is communicating to you. Discern whether she's making excuses for sth she perceive as difficult or indeed the curriculum is adding little value by not being in sync with what she needs to learn in school.

Think one parent shared earlier abt managing the child. The child may not ustand how & why we need to learn & grow, but the parent shld take charge. Of course, I don't mean pressure till the child blow up, but persuade & teach positiveness and self-motivation to learn.

Hope you and your child find a good compromise to achieve your targets.

I have a friend whose 2 kids are in Busybees, she said their work is a tad harder than Wang. But if they start young in Busybees, they can score well. To me, besides the materials and methods, the teachers are very important as well. My kids are in HCL now but just want to gather more info now for future possible use, could I know how you find the teachers in Busy Bees?

I find the teachers hardly talk to the parents. The teacher don't follow behind the kids when they got out of their classroom, which part of the reasons are the kids completed their work at different timing. The parent have to find the teacher if have any questions or concerns.

How do you find the teachers at HCL?

Hi all,

My kid is in P2 doing HCL and is currently with Berries. His Chinese results are average. I'm contemplating to augment his Chinese enrichment, particularly in the area of composition and oral. I hope to be able to revise with him effectively and personally, I find that Berries materials are not substantive enough. While he does not want to give up Berries (he has been with them since K2), he is not resistant to attending additional enrichment to improve.

Has anyone compared Wang Lao Shi vis-a-vis Jiang Lao Shi or tried both centers? Can share your insights?

The two centers can be found in AMK. Would love to hear any feedback on the teachers there...

I'm torn between the two. Thanks in advance.

Hi zephyr_bloom,

I can't give u any feedback on 江老师 , but my DC same started 百力果 since K2. Then he complained abt not enjoying 百力果 in P2. I decided to switch coz when I looked at how DC learn & materials, realised cannot make it to help beyond Pri 3.

Lots of parents recommended 汪老师 & frd advised me how to revise with DC to reap full benefits. Hv not regretted since coz he scored his A* in PSLE.

汪 used to be engaged by 江老师, before she strike off on her own. Ustand the materials & structure of teaching is diff. Pls check out with parents who hv been to 江老师 centre.

Our experience is that 汪老师 trained her teachers personally to meet her required std. The hisband quited his prof role to help her run. Every complain even abt admin or washroom, he'll call back for detailed feedback & next few weeks, we saw their own cleaners rather than the bldg's cleaner. At 汪老师 learning centre, need to revise weekly. Towards PSLE exams, bundle whole lot of resources to revise final round. Lots of topics & guides. My own Chinese words & compo & Oral ability improved too as a parent.

As we're now nearer sec sch, we're at 华艺学院 nearer to save precious time. Before MYE, was abit unnec anxious to put DC back to 汪 for sec HCL. But the foundation seemed good & DC did well. So no need to change for now. If ever we need, hope 汪老师 still holds out as good place to switch back.

Hope other parents with 江老师 experience will share here.
