Thanks laughingcat. If that's the case, I see not much point to join the intensive class to revise textbook syllabus. Rather time consuming to spend 3 hrs every day of Sep holiday just on CL revision. n

I too did not opt for intensive class during the Sept holidays. With the intensity in Sept, I wanted the DS1 to rest more and do more past year papers. We have more time for all subjects and still have me-time. It works fine for my DS1 then. In my opinion, the workshop during the holiday to speed up the kids for PSLE is not necessary. Time wastage in travelling up and down. Time wastage to get rest after travelling....

FHP, if your child have after school support system for Oral and LC, that will be great. Coz the school will have the right system in place such as the video and sound track. For my DS1, the school have 2 lessons per week after school which I felt more than suffice. Oral must practice alot. Once per week is really not enough.

I might add that 汪老师 or any tuition Centre do not hv the time to keep your child practicing Orals as they hv a class full of at least 10-12 students. Time do not permit unless u hv home tutor. Even for school holiday Programmes, the sign-up per June weekly holiday revision is extremely limited.

As LC advised, it’s more productive if you spend time to guide yr child at home for more practices. Altho 汪老师 Centre kept hussling us to sign up for June revision, we do not budge as it’s commercial gain for these centers but our kids’ time lost besides fruitless use of our financial resources.

Oral requires building of vocab & confidence. If the child has not been trained to respond in Mandarin conversation progressively, it’s too much to try shave to the child & kids might react & refuse to perform or hate the subj.

Try coaching yr child to :

1. Meet with polite greetings & smile - 老师早安好 老师午安 ... 我的名字是 _ _ _。

2. Pay attention to the video clips & after one viewing start thinking what wld the invigilators be asking based on the characters shown in video clip

3. When starting (开头) to answer in a oral conversation, remind your child to use what he/she will use for 作文 by noting the weather or time in the video clip - Sunny day, night time, school recess time, etc. Impt to start with 时间, 地点, 人物。 If your child can identify these 3 st the beginning of conversation & speak confidently, he wld alr score quite decent marks. Tell your child to take it as a game of able to spot ppl, time, place or weather & describe to invigilator clearly in Manadarin. Use simple words is OK if the child is struggling with confidence. Earn some opening marks.

4. Speak clearly & enunciate clearly. Use simple words, but if yr child knows more 成语 / 词语 encourage yr child to throw in one or two in whole oral exams to gain points

5. Practice with your child in Mandarin speaking a few phrases in respond to qns on behaviour - 有爱心,有公德心,知错能改,认错, 道歉,要有公德心,有同情心, 同心协力地和同学一起合作,不能自私自利,..... the list can go on.

My take is don’t stress the child too much to imprint a dislike for the subject of u so hope for yr child to do well.

Just sharing...

For those who live near Novena. There is this Zhou Academy (Goldhill Plaza, not beauty world branch), which conducts intensive PSLE Oral class this June hol. I sent both my girls there in previous years and I find them good!

If you stay far away, then better not come down as time is precious for the last stretch.
