Can recommned which brand of printer is cheap & good? No need to be color where mainly print black & white for MS word document like test & exam paper.

Size would be A4. Can consider laser printer? Heard it is also cheap & good? The catridge is also very cheap? Target price maybe $50 & below!Possible? :celebrate:

I too am looking for a monochrome, laser printer for printing exam paper and the likes at home. :hi5:
Have been looking around for some time. I don't think it is possible to find a laser printer for $50.
Let me share some of my R & D
HP: $169 - monochrome, laser, wireless :D, compact, but only prints(no scan, photocopy) latest model.
Brother: $118 - monochrome, laser, not wireless, can scan and photocopy, not as compact as the above model, since needs to scan, photocopy.
Canon: $118 - same features as Brother.

The ink cartridge will cost around $100 which prints 1000 pages.
All the above info I gathered from courts mega store.

Now waiting for the upcoming IT show. DH too keen on freebies you can get there. :P Anyway the printer is not so urgent, so can wait. :D

I just thrown away my 3rd printer. Always hv problem with the ink. Coz I didnt use it often so everytime after a few months idle and wanted to use again the ink will block. Anybody can recommend printer with the ink that won't get dry easily for the light user like me? TIA. Sorry for using your thread

Get laser printer...no such problem.

Alternatively, there's one brand of printer that has the print head on the
ink cartridges. So when your ink dry up, just change cartridge and you
have new, unblocked print heads. Can't remember which brand...Canon?

This is a typical case of a inkjet printer.
Thats why I'm going for the laser printer and mono chrome at that!
One more problem with color printer is that the printing cannot be done if one of the ink is used up :x
Go for laser.

To me, all printers are generally quite cheap, it's the consumables that kill.

I would recommend to go for inkjet printer, as you can get refillables from Sepoms:

Some might say the non-original ink will spoil the printer, but to me,the printer is cheap enough (most come free with pc/ laptop) to write off as disposable item!

Very true. A friend in the IT retail business told me their margin for printers is very very low, but they make their money selling cartridges/toner.

Using refills is good idea, but best to do it after your warranty is over.
Think most brands will void warranty if you use refills.

We switched from Brothers to HP Deskjet Printer and this primter cost less than $100.

It is both a black n color printer, scan, photocopy...
Hp Deskjet Printer ink does not clog or dry up unlike the brother inkjet printer. So we abandoned the brother printer even though it is still usable...

I recommend HP printer..

I just threw out a Brother laser printer. It gave us about 8 years of printouts (which is good), but the printouts tended to be very light (which is not so good), for some reason or other. I am looking for a HP during the coming PC show to replace it. Somehow, the HP printout is a lot nicer.
