i've been using an HP all in 1 inkjet for several years...print every other day. even when either cart light prompts low in ink, i can still print for a while until the colour goes off completely. feeding in paper can be frustrating though, especially if printing continuously. for simple home user, it is still acceptable.
usually printer is cheap but cartridges are ex. i buy the combo set (black and colour) from popular.

Anyone could recommend a laser color printer:-
(1) Must have auto-duplex printing.
(2) As compact as possible.

checkout Xerox docuworks.
It has two models - auto duplex and manual duplex. I used the manual duplex and it's alright.
Not too big in size, plus, it has WIFI printing - which is a YEAH !!! so I can print from anywhere in the house wireless.
Coloured printer, so cartridges are about S$95 each. I think this is LED printing, definitely not ink cartridge.

I am using the canon pixma g2000 refillable tank which is an inkjet printer. As I print lots of documents for my kids, I found it cheaper as I only need to buy their refillable ink.

Laser with OEM printer cartridges are the best solution for us.

I've been having Epson L655 duplex all-in-one ink tank printer for more than a year now. So far I didn't even have to refill even once! Very economical compared to my previous HP inkjet printer which cartridge I must change every a few weeks. I'm very very happy with Epson L655 because now we can print without even have to think how to save the ink. I think I have saved a few hundreds dollars because our previous inkjet cartridge is very expensive! It is like $30 for a colour and those 4 colours take turn to run out every 3-4 weeks
But I admit that Epson L655's printing quality wise is inferior to inkjet printer. However, it is good enough for all school related stuff unless if photo quality print is required.

Sounds interesting. My trusty 4-year old Brother MFC-650DW is suffering from WIFI problems lately, and I'm now sourcing for a newer printer that doesn't get my DD come running to me every couple of days complaining "Daddy the printer cannot connect again!".
Does the Epson have cloud services whereby images can be scanned directly into your Dropbox, etc account? How much does the ink cost?

I don't know whether Epson have cloud services or not. So far we only scan images into our PC. But too bad this printer can't automatically scan double-sided. It can only print double-sided but not scan double-sided.
I don't know how much the ink cost because so far (1+ year) our original tanks are still about 50% full although we print like nobody's business
