Help - how to extract data from crashed PC?

Postby rydy » Wed May 04, 2011 9:38 am

Hi all kiasu parents,

I tried to find a similar thread but unsuccessful.

Finally our home PC crashed after many years of usage by my young children!

So we have bought a new laptop for the children, so everything fine.

BUT, how about the data being stored in the old CPU? At the moment the PC cannot start-up at all, therefore I cannot save the files into an external drive.

Should I bring it to a computer shop for them to retrieve?

If yes, do you guys have anyone to recommend? Or how do you guys do with your old CPU in this case?

Appreciate your comment. Thanks!

Before you pay anyone to try to recover your data, you can pop by Sim Lim or other IT shop to purchase a IDE/SATA to USB cable, which looks like this: http://www.chinawholesalegift.com/Elect ... 133206398/

Then you can simply pull out your harddisk from the old PC, hook it up with the cable and then plug it into your new PC/notebook like an external hard drive. Unless your PC crashed due to hard disk failure, else you should be able to extract your data from it.
