trivial question: family photos and such

Postby Joule » Thu Dec 27, 2012 4:41 pm

dear friends

can I ask how you all keep your family photos?

do you:

print out a select few to frame and display?/ put in album?

or do you

print out everything

or do you

upload to flickr / blog / facebook etc?

reason for asking: CDs and DVDs don't seem to last and may grow mould. just want a good place to store my photos too

any recommendations for free sky drives?

i keep ours on PC harddisk, with redundant backup on a NAS (network attached storage).

for viewing, it is on our iPads, and home media player (to view on TV).

you may want to consider keeping your dvd on drybox or invest in a NAS.

I maintain the family's 'master set' on my PC's hard disk, but my husband usually copies them onto his PC as well. We backup on external drive every couple of months, usually after some major additions like after an event or holiday. Every 6 mths, we burn them on DVD. We burn the whole collection each time so we don't worry too much about the old ones getting mouldy etc. and we also keep an extra set of DVDs at my parents' house. We only print a few for display.

I print and put in the album.

Can't trust the software, my data and photos were gone when everything crashed. Only manage to salvage some.

Putting in an album is more meaningful as the years go by. IMO

I keep them in my external hard disk, and leave them in the camera SD card if I don't need the space. I only print some out for display or scrapbooking.

photo albums too but compared to the past, we had to conserve film by taking our 36 shots nicely.

now with SD card just snap snap snap
