Smart phone - pre paid card - data plan

Postby smum » Fri Sep 27, 2013 7:23 am

Anybody letting your kids used smart phone with Singtel pre paid card? I understand it comes with 5MB data plan for every $10 top up. Worried my kids will over use the data plan with Facebook and What's App message.

Is there a way to de-activated the data plan? Or restrict iPhone to only use wifi? Any advise how to manage? Thank you.

I thought for pre-paid, once you finish the quota then cannot work?

The Singtel salesgirl told me that they will start charging for data plan usage once the free 5MB is used up. Which can be quite fast for children as they really use a lot for social media communication. That's why was wondering how the other parents manage their kids smart phone.

There is the YO18($18) as well as Datatalk($22) top up that last a month.
I prefer to keep the kids on prepaid instead of post paid plan because I think this would let them limit the usage up to the top up value for the month. So far I have never had to top up beyond the monthly value and there is always value roll over to the next month.

Anyone with better options than this?

I also prefer pre paid card as $10 can last 3 months. But hubby going to pass iPhone to DS. Worried he starts using it for FB and What's App. Those require data plan if don't have wifi. A friend son used up $30 in just a few days because chatting with friends and playing online game.

I bou a hi-card for $35/- with a value of $41/-

The salesperson advised me to turn off 3G n Data mobile in the iPhone before inserting the SIM card. She said once the value of $41/- is used up, the phone can only send SMS, receive free incoming calls until we top up again.

Can you advise how to turn off 3G and data mobile in iPhone? I'm really not very good with technology.

Hubby did it last night: must insert the sim card first, go to Setting, Celluar, from there, swipe the 3G and Data roaming.

Now the issue is how to delete the original email box???
