Wifi extenders only make sense if you do not have ethernet ports in every room. If the room you put the Wifi extender in already has poor signal strength from the main router, the connection between the Wifi extender and base station will also be rather weak. So while you may have a strong signal between the Wifi extender and your notebook or smartphone, your transfers will still suffer.

What I do is simply to put a normal Wifi router in the rooms where the Wifi coverage is poor, and connect it to my main router via ethernet cable. My Wifi router is just being used as a normal Wifi bridge and switch, and NOT as a router. That way, I have to use different SSIDs to distinguish each router signal from the other, but I'm assured of the best connection possible.

Thank you for the above.

There is another Ethernet cable socket in ah boy's room where the wifi signal is weak.

He complains the Ethernet cable not working too.

I yet to verify his claims.

I know little at this area. The modem is in the living room. We can access internet in the bedrooms and even the toilet.

Is the modem placed somehow in the middle of the entire layout?

Ours is like L shaped layout. Ah boy's room is at the top of the L whereas the modem is somewhere the other end of L with 3 walls in between, maybe 10 meters in straight line?
