Sometimes, I see Kdrama scenes the actor/actress makes payment by passing their mobile phones to the cashier staff.

Are those NFC enabled payments?

Is this technology widely practiced in Singapore now? Or at beginning stage?

This morning, I saw a Apple Pay article in the newspaper. Is Apple Pay something similar to NFC payment?

Taken from the website you mentioned....

Now paying in stores happens in one natural motion — there’s no need
to open an app or even wake your display thanks to the innovative
Near Field Communication antenna in iPhone 6s, iPhone 6 and iPhone SE.

Near Field Communication = NFC

If you have an Android phone that supports NFC, you can upgrade your SIM card to an NFC SIM. Once done, you can top up the card via the EZLink mobile app anytime via a credit card. So it is quite convenient. The other nice thing is that you can track all the transactions you made with the card. But if you phone is out of battery... you are out of luck!

good point! with NFC, will it be possible for some ill-intent ppl to steal from you? since all they need is a device going near your phone and beep, payment is made. or does the user need to do some form of acknowledgement before payment is make? if so, it might take them some time at the mrt gantry right?
