Literacy Circle - Discussion
Literacy Circle
My son is a P1 student who hates reading and did not make it for his exams. I was being recommended by his teacher to Literacy Circle (Jurong East Centre) as it is the nearest to our home. In just a few lessons he shown great improvements in his reading and start applying encoding/decoding skills each time he sees an alien word and enjoys reading the subtitles on the TV. Both my hubby and I are very pleased and would strongly recommend Literacy Circle. Just another compliment, the centre is beautifully done up and well-maintained with very genuine, polite staff and teachers. Keep it up, Literacy Circle!
Re: Literacy Circle
I pass by Literacy Circle, found nice place, people there speak very good english and are polite. They are native teachers. am interested but any one else send kids there before?Managed to talk to the person in charge and they say emphasis on open mind thinking and talking in the centre. Any more feedbacks from parents?klim wrote:My son is a P1 student who hates reading and did not make it for his exams. My elder is in Learning Lab and coping well so I dont intend to switch. But My twins in P2, found that they had lots of homework from Learning Lab. Esp my son tend to sleep when copying the long model composition. They are almost at least 2 to 3 homework per week in Learning Lab. All the homework are for one 1 compo only. Though they say quite fun in class but they are not interested with the home work given.
Its type of drilling teaching and I dont want to see the twins struggle with homework when they are in P2 only. The words used and material are very high standard. Though it is good but it will kill the little kids motivation and desire in study.
Headpain of thinking which is the suitable place to put them.
My kids attended LC Marine Parade holiday creative writing programme. Both of them are now with BC and I had signed up for 1 yr prog so not possible to switch.
My P2 girl in particular enjoyed the writing session and she became "highly motivated" to write as the LC teacher thought she was good. I nearly fell off my chair when he told me that she is very creative,etc... and she is able to write pretty fine. I related to him the problems I faced whereby her results in school for written expression sucks and also she don't read what she wrote so many times, there are grammatical errors,etc... Nevertheless, she told us that she wants to switch to LC next year. We shall see how it goes though daddy feels that BC's scope supports english learning and he felt that it's accumulation of what she learnt in BC and school that led her to do well in LC.... it's not a overnite success kind of deal.
In this case, I think the teacher did a good job in motivating her. I do not mind switching her if the teacher can do a good job in motivating the kids thereby instiling their interest.

My child have been attending the branch at Jurong East since Jan this year and I am already seeing results (attempting to read by breaking down the sounds). I am happy with his progress, as i have been sending him to phonics class at his childcare since he is in N1 (he's in K2 now) and i feel that he has gained nothing much from the phonics classes at his childcare). In this 1.5 months, i noticed he no longer fears to read (he used to whine when i ask him to read on his own)..
anyone interested to send their kids to Literarcy circle (Jurong East)? Please pm me if you are keen, as there is a referral programme whereby newly enrolled kids can get a discount should they get a referral from existing students (my child). PM me if you can keen, cheers.

May I know how old is your kid where attending which level at LCentral? I now considering between Jurong East,Thomson & Bukit Timah. Weekend course seem to cost extra $50 against the weekday course.
I wonder whether they can give us any trial lesson a not? What would both of us gain if sign up at L Central?

Hi all,
I'm in the process of shortlisting English Enrichment Class for my K1 and K2 daughters. Kind of down to iCreativeLearner and LCentral.
Would be very appreciative if you can share with me your personal experience and feedback on any of the above centres, in particular LCentral (cuz it works better for me in terms of location):-
1. Do they provide an all-rounder English enrichment course aimed at building good foundation?
2. Are they structured in terms of their teaching?
3. What is the student-teacher ratio? And who are the teachers?
4. Is there any huge disparity in terms of teacher and general teaching quality between LCentral Jurong East vs Bt Timah branch?
Thanks a heap!
Mama Dinah

Hi Titank,
My child is in K2, attending liftoff programme. from what i gathered there is no free trial, but they do have assessment session whereby they can advice which programme to place your child. Was actually looking at I can read and L central, and I find both programmes similar. What made me choose L central is that per term, a) they are cheaper (about $50 lesser per term as compared to I can read) b) I liked the environment at the JE branch and c) i read on-line in a forum page (perhaps this one?) that their programmes more aligned to MOE's.
As for the referral programme, if i introduce someone to the programme, both of us will receive a $30 voucher for your next term's fees (cannnot be used to deduct first term's fees). For month of feb, they have CNY promotion, which is when your child enrolls in month of Feb, we will both receive 2 vouchers of $30 off each (total value of $60).
