Before R : S = 2:3 (total 5units )belnanna wrote:Can someone help on this question please..

Ryan and Sam shared a sum of money in the ratio of 2:3. When Ryan gave Sam $20, he had half of what Sam had. How much did Sam have at first?

After R : S = 1:2 (total 3units)

There is no change of total. So use LCM 15 to get total equal for before and after.

Before (x3) R:S = 2x3 : 3x3 = 6:9

After (x5) R:S= 1x5 : 2x5 = 5:10

Ryan descreased 1unit.

1u --> $20

Sam at first is 3units --> $60

Hope it helps.

Cheers
