Need help on this question:

Islani had to read a book for his school project. On the 1st day, he read 72 pages of the book. On the 2nd day, he read 1/4 of the remaining number of pages. In the end, he still had to read 1/2 of the total number of pages to complete the book. How many pages were there in the book?

I would solve the question as follows:
1st day -> 72 pages
2nd day -> 1/4 of the remaining number of pages, that is 1u out of 4u
Total -> 72+1u+3u
3u->72+1u
2u->72
1u->36
6u->36x6=216 Ans: 216 pages

Let me put it this way:
Area of a triangle = 1/2 x base x height
Note that the bases and heights of both triangles CEF and CFG are the same. Hence, their areas are also the same.

It might be way easier if Matthew paid $23.30 for 5 such mechanical pencils and 6 such files.
Let me try and get back.

ETA: I cannot solve your original problem via the model method. I did solve it via simultaneous equations, and it is fairly complicated. I am not sure a P5 student can solve it this way, even with the use of a calculator.
