Hi belnanna,

Let's try:

John spent 3 u
Jiachun and Veronica spent a total of 2 u
Total spending for all three children is 5 u

5 u → $34.50

1 u → ???

John → 3 u → ???

Can you solve from here?

Please let us know if you still need help.

Cheers

belnanna wrote:Margaret spent 30% of her salary on transport and $270 on clothes. She saved the remaining amount of her salary. If she saved $300 more than the amount she spent, how much was her savings?

Can someone please confirm the answer for this? My answer is different from the given answer...
Thanks in advance..
Total amount spent = $270 + 30%
Total amount saved = $270 + 30% + $300 = $570 + 30%

Total amt spent + total amt saved = 100%
270 + 30% + $570 + 30% = 100%
$840 + 60% = 100%
==> 40% = $840
30% = $630

==> Total amt saved = $570 + $630 =$1200.

The area of semi-circle = 77 sqcm.
So area of the whole circle will be 154 sqcm.
So radius will be sqrt(154 X 7 / 22)
Radius = 7 cm
Diameter = 14 cm

The diameter is the height of the triangle.
Area of the triangle = 1/2 X 14 X 14 = 98 sqcm

Area of the whole figure = 98 + 77 = 175 sqcm
I believe area of circle is not covered in P5?

However, a P5 student should recognize that the triangle is an
isosceles triangle (90, 45, 45 degree), so the height is same
as the base at 14cm.
