In the normal usage of the English language, 35 rooms will still yield the same result of 6 days v 9 days (ie. 1 day ahead of schedule v 2 days behind schedule). Therefore, 6X = 4X + 12

Total rooms = 6 x 6 = 36

(6 days vs 9 days)

And 37 rooms will yield results of 7 days v 10 days (also 1 day ahead of schedule v 2 days behind schedule). As will 38, 39 and 40 rooms...

I don't do this for fun. I have a dd who gets confused by imprecise language in maths and science questions because she seems to be able to see the various scenarios due to the ambiguity and go . This is because some of the scenarios presented by the ambiguity may be unsolvable with the skills/methods within the maths or science syllabus.

Imprecisely worded questions are so unfair to kids like her.
