4x + 21.90 = 7x +16.50
3x = 38.40
x = 12.60

12.60 x 4 + 21.90
= 50.40 + 21.90
= 72.30

I've encountered these problems in a maths assessment book. However, I don't quite understand the solutions. Hopefully, I'll get a better understanding here:

The total mass of 3 big sacks of rice is the same as the total mass of 5 small sacks of rice. A big sack of rice is 2.2kg heavier than a small sack of rice. What is the mass of 5 small sacks of rice?

Divide 46 by 6 and express your answer as a decimal correct to 1 decimal place.

Divide 433 by 6. Then round off your answer to 1 decimal place.

1) Rui En had 230 more eggs than Mr Ho. When Rui En sold 466 eggs. Mr Ho had thrice
as many eggs as The number she had left. How many eggs did Mr Ho have?


2). Mr Goh and Mr Ali had the same amount of money. After Mr Goh bought 4 kg of prawns
He had $21.90 left. Mr Ali needed $16.50 more to buy 7 kg of prawns.

a). How much did 1 kg of prawns cost?
b). How much did Mr Goh have at first?

2) Tom and Jerry have the same number of stamps at first. After Tom gave 60 stamps to Jerry, Jerry has 9 times as many stamps as Tom. How many stamps does each of them have at first?

Q1) Alan is the constant, so any difference in spending must come from Ben and Clara. Thus, we can see that Clara spent (585-225) $360 more than Ben. Since Clara spent 4 times more than Ben, the difference of $360 must be 3units. Therefore, 1U = $120.
Clara spent 4U-->$480
Alan spent (585-480)= $$105.

Answer:$103

At first, they have (15+60) 75 stamps each
