I've only ever had male gynaes (2 in total). No problems at all. I can't compare with femal gynaes because I've never had one.

I have never tried a male gynae yet, I don't think I would be comfortable with it

Personally, I prefer a male gynae, but some people are not really comfortable with male gynae, so it is really up to your preference, your husband's preference, your in laws preferences and your parents preferences.

Just curious, why do u prefer a male gynae?

I prefer female gynae. Or rather, I prefer someone who is gentle, reassuring, calm and does not panic (in the event of emergencies). Small hands are a major bonus (you know, so it doesn’t hurt so much during the pelvic examination!)

Gentle, meticulous and patient (generally female traits) also help when stitching up.

I only see them as doctor. Regardless Male or Female. I had male gynae. I just opted for him :
1. since he was my doc for my Cyst removal and he does delivery.. when I asked.
2. convenience as I was using KKH satellite clinic @ AMK. No need wait long.. (At that time but the clinic has since closed)

but i didnt consider the ugly stitches.. LoL. Yes, the line can still be seen.

On behalf of male doctors, I have to say that some stitch very neatly and beautifully! Many plastic surgeons are male, and my brother (not a gynae but a surgeon), does very neat stitching.

On the male/female issue - I didn't choose a male gynae specifically, but went to the first one through family connections, and was later referred to the 2nd for specialised treatment. Both were very patient, gentle, highly-skilled doctors, and I was very comfortable with both. It neve occurred to me to ask for a female gynae, actually, since my mother had always seen a male gynae.

I personally don't mind having a male gynae, considering that they are trained and experienced healthcare professionals. I'm currently seeing a male gynaecologist who we also chose as our obstetrician for our first child. So far my experience has been pleasant, not at all awkward. His name is Dr Christopher Ng, btw.

I've had only one gynae and she's a she :D Her name is Dr Regina Ng and she's also my mom's gynae. I don't think I'd feel comfortable with a male one though, or even switching to another female one :/ I'd prefer to have just the one.
