I would like to asking for some opinions.
I am registering my monkey girl.
Currently I'm staying north. My BTO will be only ready in Q2 next year (with delays and delays)

I have listed the choices
1. Maha Bohdi 2C <1km
2. SMPS 2C >2km
3. CCPS 2C >2km

Considering affiliation, I was keener on option 2 < 1< 3.

Not really sure I have to use my current address or the BTO for the registration.

I assume SMPS is St Margaret's Primary School. Not sure what CCPS is.

Are the distances from your current house or your new place?

This is from MOE's website:
"You can register your child for P1 using the address of a yet-to-be completed property you have purchased.
Documents required
After you have registered online, you must email one of these documents to the school:
For HDB flat: A printout of the "New Flat" page from MyHDBPage.
For private property: A copy of the original Sales and Purchase agreement.
The vacant or delivery possession date of the new property you are moving into must be within 2 years of your child’s entry into P1."

So if the indicative date of your BTO is 6 months into next year, I think you shouldn't have a problem. You will need to use the address to your new flat, not your current one.

OK. Here's the Phase 2C situation for St Margaret's.

Image

Under "2C balloting",
0 = No balloting
1 = Balloting for PR > 2km
2 = Balloting for PR 1-2km
3 = Balloting for PR <1km
4 = Balloting for SC > 2km

From the looks of it, St Margaret will offer you a good chance, but you might be forced to ballot since you are >2km from it. The fact that 2C has "increased" its seats by 20, it might appear quite certain you will get the seat, but that might actually increase the number of people who wants to try their luck, so please be careful and monitor the 3-day period closely.

My gut feel is this year, SMPS will ballot for SC > 2km at poorer odds compared to past years.

The past few years data is really not a good guide for SMPS. One of the reason that it has become unpopular (or less popular) is due to the school being assigned a ‘temporary’ holding site more than 4km away. It was also unfortunate that the ‘temporary’ site ended up being rather permanent for some of them. When they shift back in Jan 2024, I believe none of their students at that time would have spent time or seen the old school.

The good news is Jan 2024 isn’t that far away. Hence, people who might have been put off by the temp site would probably consider SMPS favorably, since it’s only 1 year in the temp site.

...
Poorer odds as in "better chance for people to get into SMPS" ?

I mean harder to get in.

Should see an increase in the number of applicants < 2km this year, leaving fewer places for those > 2km.

That’s my guess.
