Interesting observation. Could you share what it was abt ACSI that gave u this negative impression? It is one of the schs i am looking at for my kid.

...SJI Open House today...They do not segregate their OP and IP boys. The whole school gives off a very inclusive vibe & not elitist at all...

Hello! Yes, the school has always given me an inclusive feel as well. Oh, but wrt the non segregation of op/ ip, is it cos it's only for the foundation years (sec 1 & 2)? Pace changes somewhat drastically in upper sec, so I'm just wondering how the timetables work. Thanks

Wrt OP/IP “segregation”, I am not referring to timetables or class allocations. Of course those are separated because they learn different things in their respective curriculums.

I believe ACSI (correct me if I am wrong here) has separate wings in the school for IP and OP and they are not allowed to trespass into the “other” wing. Within each CCA there are 2 separate groups of boys, IP and OP, and they do not mix at all. The special programs for IP are not open to any OP students at all, not even at Sec 1-2 level. I got the impression that there exist 2 different social “classes” of people in the school: the elite IP class & the less-stellar & less prestigious OP folk that dont get access to the same resources. It’s like “us versus them” and the tour guides & CCA reps etc literally dont know anything about the other folks.

Whereas at SJI, I didnt sense any such dividing line. The entire school compound is open and free to walk thru no matter whether OP or IP, facilities & resources are shared. The OP kids get to experience mentored research projects right from Sec 1. The CCAs we asked didnt seem to require any prior experience, and there is a free-for-all try out period during Orientation before they fill in their choices. It is unlike certain CCAs at ACSI where only those with competition experience are accepted.

Hi, I just realised that both RI and NUSH selection tests falls on 2 July morning. In this case, we should only apply to either school? Thanks.

I have asked in today's RI's e-Open House as well as NUSH's Open House to the principal directly. The NUSH principal assured that "the two schools have deconflicted the schedule" and parents are advised to contact both schools in the case of clash. Basically on case by case basis should be able to arrange different timing or right after one another.

I was chit chatting with this boy who DSA into CHS basketball, really nice chap, had a very good impression of him.

Anyway he said that it’s ok if the student doesn’t have any experience in basketball or plays it competitively in his primary school or even joined the CCA. They will be assessed during the trial for their potential. He has seniors who DSA without any experienced and got selected. He said height is one of the factors. In terms of number of kids selected, his year 7 kids got selected. The year before only 5.

So his advice, if you have interest, just go ahead and come for the trial. Hope that helps!

DSA without experiencing the sport? I didn't know that is possible.
