Leg cramps at night
Leg cramps at night
Been having leg cramps at night. Sometimes both calves at the same time. Power. No, I don't exercise so can't be due to over-assertion. It can be quite painful. Any remedies? Thanks.

What you can do is, before you sleep so some calf stretch. Like sit with leg stretched , lean back can take support with hands (on bed also can)- this should be comfortable, and bend ur toes inwards as much as u can. Hold for 5 sec then release.markfch wrote:Been having leg cramps at night. Sometimes both calves at the same time. Power. No, I don't exercise so can't be due to over-assertion. REpeat 2-3 times.
You can also do it when u wake up with the cramp at night. My DS get it when he had a long tiring day. It has worked for him.
Any way did u check with Dr. Google?
Markfch, Are you short of potassium? Are you eating too much sodium? There is a balance together with magnesium for proper muscle functioning.
You might want to try some of those electrolyte drinks together with stretching exercises. Even eating bananas is good cos of the potassium content.
From Dr Quack
(kidding lah! But the advise is ok-ish. Was told this by a doc friend cos his son suffers from it constantly).

Thanks sun. Thought Dr Google is only good for the really impt issues, not minor ailments like these. Ok seriously, was hoping to have some traditional oriental fix rather than western ones.Sun_2010 wrote: Any way did u check with Dr. Google?

Markfch, I dun know whether man's leg cramp has any similarity with woman. What I know for woman is shortage of calcium. That's the reason why pregnant woman tends to have leg cramp.
You ask the right person about traditional method cos I recently had the same issue and got it rectified.
Firstly, if you are not exercising, not prespiring alot, please DO NOT drink 100 plus. I was prespiring alot but I probably still had an overdose of 100 plus. It is high in sodium and if there is too much in your body, it is not good too.
I had it on my left leg...one morning when I woke up, the pull was so excruciating that I thought I would not be able to walk anymore. The last time I experienced a cramp was when I was a teenager so this was rather alarming to me. The cramp went away after several minutes but there was a constant nagging intermitten pull at my calf.
So I popped by the TCM and this physician did an acupuncture on me and it was the first time I had acupuncture. When she did it, she told me acupuncture would be really fast effect. Being a skeptic, I took her words with a pinch of salt , as I expected immediate relief but did not get it.
However, the magic happened on my way home....the moment I hit home, the pain was all gone. Actually that was already quite a good speed of recovery considering I had been walking around with the pain for at least 2 days.
Until now, I have not had another attack *touchwood* but I have also stopped consuming 100 plus.....deadly drink for me if my exercise is not rigorous enough.

Women tends to have more leg cramp than men. Women taking oral contraceptives pills have more leg cramps than women not taking.BlurBee wrote:He is a daddy.daisyt wrote:Are you a mummy?markfch wrote:Been having leg cramps at night.
