Thanks verykiasu for the article.
My first thought is what is the pupil like generally? I don't think anyone would be throwing things around in the classroom unless severely provoked. Everything is student and parent say - who's to know if the kid was genuinely tired or just playing the fool and acting insolent; who's to know if the kid really is such a good boy as mentioned in the article.
If this were to happen to my kid, first thing I would do is to ask him what happened and why. He probably would kena caning from me if it's becos he's been watching too much tv and therefore didn't have enough sleep the night before.
But I would still talk to the teacher and ask him/her to refrain from such physical moves - what if pencil box land on other people?

The pt is that students generally look up to teachers for guidance and even as character reference pts. So does that mean that those other students in the class will now think it is right to throw things at physically weaker beings whenever they are unhappy with something?
Actually to me, it is even more damaging for a teacher to verbally abuse a student, as such labelling a student as stupid. I think that will be even more insidious.

Hmm... am I the odd one out here?
During my time, I remember my Pri sch teacher used to throw the chalk duster across the classroom to hit the mischievious kid. Pretty accurate somemore... and funny to see the kid covered in chalk!
I think most parents are just too overly-protective towards kids.
The way I interpret the article... the parent seems to condone the kid sleeping in class...

So you think it is alright if your own kid is caught sleeping in class and then get hit by a duster? And everyone in the class starts laughing at him/her covered in chalk?Daddy D wrote:Hmm... am I the odd one out here?
