Hello Chief! I'm new to this platform, stumbled upon it while reasearching for schools for my girl. Anyway, I went for the Zhenghua Open House last Friday and was really impressed by the dedication and hardwork of the teachers. The children were well behaved and seemed purposeful. The school was vibrant. I also like the emphasis on character development.

On the other hand, when I visited CHIJ (Bt Timah), the school buses had just left, it was quiet. In fact the teachers were also seen leaving (on time). Their website was also not up to date with several errors. BUT it's a 'branded' school.

Do you have any comments about the two schools? I'm pretty torn and can't decide.

Hi socks, CHIJ OLQP is generally regarded as the top school in Bukit Panjang area, followed closely by Bukit Panjang Primary. As you noted, it is a "branded" school, so it will be quite competitive trying to get a place in the school. You will need to stay within 2km to have a chance to get in. There's an entire thread dedicated to CHIJ schools in our forums that you may wish to check out.

I don't know much about Zhenghua to comment, but both Zhenghua and CHIJ OLQP produced outstanding students in PSLE last year. And judging from your own experience, it sounds like Zhenghua is more than just a decent neighbourhood school with good and hardworking staff, although I would hesitate to conclude that OLQP's staff are not hardworking just because they left the school "on time".

So why not go for the school that is nearest to you? And if both are within 1km, go for the one YOU are more comfortable with. Don't be persuaded to go for a branded school if you feel that the neighbourhood school that is ignored by everyone else is equally as good, or perhaps even better, from your own experience.

School Selection Dilemma

Hi parents,
chance upon this forum while searching for info on schools, am so glad to find it!
My child is slated for to Primary one enrolment this year, but I'm still in a dilemma a to which school I should send her to....

My 1st choice is CHIJ Our Lady Quenn Of Peace, but as our home is just outside the 2km radius, think chances will be quite slim. When I try to search for info on their past PSLE results, seems that none can be found. IMHO if a school has good results, normally it'll share the good news with everyone....

2nd choice is Greenridge Primary School. This school was not on my list initially, but changed my mind after seeing so many top students in their past PSLE results. And it is less than 1km to our home. But judging from the number of students registered so far, seems not a popular choice among parents.

3rd choice is Beacon Primary School, the 1st Future Primary School. They focus on IT and creativity learning, which may give my child an edge against others if it proves successful. I'm quite sold by their vision and is thinking of putting this school as my 1st choice. However, a recent open house visit to the school was quite disppointing... I'd say the school is still quite empty. Apart from the classrooms using tablet pcs and projector boards, most infrastructures are still not ready.

4th choice is Bukit Panjang Primary School. It came to the picture as realised that this school is a popular choice among parents... seeing the number of students registered. And yes, they have top students on their past PSLE results. And our home is within 2km radius.

I can't really decide at the moment... If I go for CHIJ enrolment and my child is not selected, does it mean that my child has to wait for the next phase? Beacon Primary School seems to bea good choice, but what do you guys think?

I'm looking at Bukit Panjang Pri.
Based on past stats, for sure I need to ballot too.
But this year's competition is very stiff as they remove 60 seats at the start of registration. Don't even know if I get to ballot this year.

wa..thanks for the note.
Hm..at this rate, i really hope that the no. of people registering within 1km can exceed the 70 seats vacancies instead of like 68 out of 70 seats and then left 2 seats for a whole load of 1-2km applicants to fight over!
Will it be difficult to call through to their hotline?
You registering today for this school too?
