Children and their imaginary friends
Children and their imaginary friends
DS is 6 yrs old, a single child. He has this Snitch stuff toy that he brings everywhere he goes in the house except toilets. He imagines Snitch as his son and my grandson. And so I've to 'talk' to Snitch every night before lights out, otherwise Snitch will get lonely. When we read storybooks together, sometimes Snitch will be the one reading (ds pretends to change his voice to that of Snitch) .
For a 6 yr old boy to be still playing with stuff toy, is this alright? I've told him about Chucky the murderous doll but it doesn't bother him.

on the other hand, he is telling you he needs a younger sibling....
Markfc - there was an article in RD this month about imaginary friends and what should/shouldnt parents worry abt- maybe you wanna take a look ?
Personally, i feel its a good thing. If the child enjoys it let him be.
I have one too - could call him/her God but to me (s)he is my imaginery friend when things seem to go beyond me . And not surprisining (s)he helps me thru 8)
And then vk_2010 may have a point too

my boys (3,6) do that with their all their toys too (stuffed toys to bionicles). They will also have "animal parties" - take out all their stuffed toys and pretend they are having a party. Shd be ok lah.

Oh, your 6 yr old boy also plays stuff toys. Glad to know that. So I'll assume that there's nothing for me to be concerned about then .deminc wrote:Aiyoh! So macabre!

Don't worry lah, Markfch. Only child in the family is usually lonely and tends to talk to his/her stuff toys like they are real. My DD is also like that. She treats her soft toys as her "babies" and will bathe, feed and even take care of them when they are "sick". I believe it's a passing phase they will grow out of.
Re: Children and their imaginary friends
He himself is not a stuffed toy person from birth, but ds2 has a super soft spot for stuffed toy and treats them so earnestly that ds1 got quite into it. I think it's very cute to watch them give the various toys names and voices, haha. They will even make lego weapons for their animals to wear or make little hammocks for them to sleep in. Nothing to worry lah.markfch wrote: Oh, your 6 yr old boy also plays stuff toys. Glad to know that. So I'll assume that there's nothing for me to be concerned about then .
