All About Choosing and Buying Pianos
Re: All About Choosing Pianos
these extensive shopping experiences sounds like for those with big budget. if my budget is small as my boy is only beginning to play piano (and he is the only one learning; elder boy not so keen) and we are not rich, will these sales person entertain us? makes me wonder if i should just pop over to some cristophori sales room to look at their mass-market pianos.

Don't say liddat lah. Anyone who can afford a car in local context can also afford a grand of the highest quality. It's just a matter of choice. I've been eyeing that conti car for the longest time, but in the end I chose to save the money (by driving a lao-pok car) and spent it on a classy piano which I think will give me more satisfaction in the long run.jedamum wrote:these extensive shopping experiences sounds like for those with big budget. if my budget is small as my boy is only beginning to play piano (and he is the only one learning; elder boy not so keen) and we are not rich, will these sales person entertain us? makes me wonder if i should just pop over to some cristophori sales room to look at their mass-market pianos.
It's the job of the sales person to convince us to think likewise. So go ahead and give them a chance.
Re: All About Choosing Pianos
Hi All - Greetings!
After reading thru this thread, it reminds me of shopping experience 3 years ago...and now, i have to go thru this all again.
My 12 year old son has just recently passed his grade 7 piano practical examinations. Despite the date being so close to the PSLE , he managed to score a distinction.
Have decided that for him to move forward in his piano playing technique, we would be upgrading to a grand piano. Hence we would need to sell away our meticulously cared for Kawai K8 that we bought new 3+ years ago to a good family.
So here's the details:-
Model - Kawai K8 (132cm)
Colour - Polished Ebony
Serial# - 287xxxx
Age - 3+ years, bought brand new from RP Singapore.
- religiously tuned every six months by RP. Last tuning done this november 2011
If you like to know further details, please contact me via PM.
Thanks for reading.

Re: All About Choosing Pianos
I thot some of those 2nd-hand piano places are not bad. You probably can get fairly good restored Yamaha pianos for S$2+k, altho' those are not exam grade. I remember when I was looking around, those had a satisfactory touch/sound to me (I do like Yamaha pianos, by the way - personal preference, altho' I don't own one. Always had the chance to play on them in school/church).jedamum wrote:these extensive shopping experiences sounds like for those with big budget. if my budget is small as my boy is only beginning to play piano (and he is the only one learning; elder boy not so keen) and we are not rich, will these sales person entertain us? makes me wonder if i should just pop over to some cristophori sales room to look at their mass-market pianos.

Re: All About Choosing Pianos
Sorry, "Exam-model". Usually these are taller. The type that are used in exam studios. Usually 2nd-hand restored "exam models" cost around S$4-S$5k.jedamum wrote:thanks. i think our budget is around there.phankao wrote:I thot some of those 2nd-hand piano places are not bad. Re: All About Choosing Pianos
Hi steppy, not sure why I can't use the reply function for pm. The piano is too high to go under our wall mirror - my only free wall away from the windows. Thanks for the prompt reply though! I hope you find a good home for your piano soon!
Re: All About Choosing Pianos
Hi all,
Just to share.
Yesterday, I visited PIANOMASTER and I saw a new model for Petrof which is P118. It is smaller model and the price is cheaper than Yamaha U1. The sound of P118 is good! If this model is there during my selection, I might have bought that model.
P125 is still better though but the different in prices is quite a sum which I consider that P118 is worth buying.
That's all I want to share.
