I think for Chinese MT you will need both group and 1-1. The group environment allows your child to interact and speak with the other children in MT (important to get the child to speak and what better way than with peers, as less stressful than with teacher!). The 1-1 is to correct pronunciation and focus on weak areas of MT.

Group tuition will supplement what is taught in school and provide "enrichment" and 1-1 will strengthen foundation.

:goodpost:
Group tuition also provides a competitive environment...so the kids have to think fast to keep up.

Yes the group should be small so each child gets a chance to speak. Also likely that if it is a small group the children will bond with each other as friends and speak to each other in Chinese during class. That would be great!

Yes, the group has to be kept small, or else it will be no different from school.
Also it should be interactive.

Enrichment Centre or Private Tutor - Which is better?

Agree, group should be small. Then the students will be able to focus better.

Actually, it all depends greatly on how the lesson is delivered. If it is the lecture style, then how small a group is ineffective too...you know the blah blah style and after 1.5 hours, time is up to leave.

I find that private tutors are more effective as the tutors can focus solely on the child weakness on the subject.

Re: 1:1 chinese tuition teacher OR chinese enrichment classe

For me, I send my child to Chinese group enrichment classes to allow the child to socialise with friends in Chinese setting. I also guide my child in Chinese and monitor progress closely. Children can behave differently in group setting and home setting. If the child is too weak in Chinese, better get intensive 1 to 1 tuition from reliable tutors.

Both group and private tuition are equally good. It greatly depends on the preference of the child and which type of environment they are able to learn better and effectively.
