This year, more than 800 students from about 115 schools took part in the third annual edition1 of the Text Recital Competition for primary and secondary schools. In line with COVID-19 precautionary measures during Phase Two, this year's finals will see the online judging of video entries instead of a physical event. Contestants will be judged according to their choice of texts, voice and articulation, dramatic appropriateness and stage presence.
2. To commemorate the event, the Reading Group Leader of the Committee to Promote Chinese Language Learning (CPCLL), Dr Neo Peng Fu (梁秉赋博士), will be congratulating the winners and affirming the participants' efforts through an online video. The message, together with the results of the competition, will be made available at 5 pm on Saturday, 18 July 2020, via CPCLL's website (www.cpcll.sg), Instagram (www.instagram.com/cpcll) and Facebook (www.facebook.com/cpcll) pages. Please refer to the Annex for the list of finalists.
3. Organised by CPCLL in collaboration with Anderson Primary School and the Singapore Chinese Teachers Literary Recital Society, this competition aims to raise students' Chinese Language reading proficiency, ignite their love for learning the language, and deepen their understanding of Chinese texts in their textbooks.
4. Prior to the implementation of Circuit Breaker, about 350 primary school teachers and students had participated in a recitation workshop by the Singapore Chinese Teachers Literary Recital Society. Through an engaging and lively session, participants learned recitation techniques and how to improve their recitation skills. Due to the COVID-19 situation, unfortunately, a similar workshop planned for secondary school teachers and students had to be cancelled. Instead, online resources on recitation techniques and demonstration were shared with these teachers and students.
- The 1st and 2nd Text Recital Competitions for primary and secondary schools were held in 2018 and 2019 respectively.
