Outstanding Performance by Singapore at the 2016 International Olympiads for the Sciences, Mathematics and Informatics

The Ministry of Education congratulates our students for their excellent performance at the International Olympiads for Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics and Informatics in July and August 2016.

27th International Biology Olympiad (IBO)

2. The Singapore team obtained four Gold medals at the 27th IBO held in Hanoi, Vietnam from 17 to 24 July 2016. Singapore was placed 1st overall in a field of 252 student participants from 72 countries.

3. The Gold medallists are Mok Kai Lin, Jacy from Hwa Chong Institution, Li Jiaqi, Lim Yi Shen Justin and Tang Fengjie from Raffles Institution.

4. The Singapore delegation was led by Dr Beverly Goh and Dr Chen Zhong from the National Institute of Education, Nanyang Technological University, Dr Amy Choong from the Department of Biological Sciences, National University of Singapore and Ms Tay Wee Beng from the Ministry of Education. 48th International Chemistry Olympiad (IChO)

5. The Singapore team obtained two Gold medals and two Silver medals at the 48th IChO held in Tbilisi, Georgia, from 23 July to 1 August 2016. Singapore was placed 6th in a field of 264 student participants from 67 countries.

6. The Gold medallists are Wong Huai Zhe, Mathew from Raffles Institution and Nan Zhihan from NUS High School of Mathematics and Science. The Silver medallists are Wang Kaiying from Raffles Institution and Glen Goh Wee Zhuan from NUS High School of Mathematics and Science. Nan Zhihan was also awarded the the IUPAC1 Prize for achieving the highest score in the experimental examination.

7. The Singapore delegation was led by Dr Zhang Sheng and Dr Foo Maw Lin from the Department of Chemistry, National University of Singapore, Dr Wu Jiang from Victoria Junior College and Ms Lee Lin Hoon from the Ministry of Education. 47th International Physics Olympiad (IPhO)

8. The Singapore team obtained two Gold medals and three Silver medals at the 47th IPhO held in Zürich, Switzerland (jointly hosted by Liechtenstein), from 11 to 17 July 2016. Singapore was placed 7th in a field of 400 student participants from 84 countries.

9. The Gold medallists are Lee Yuan and Feng Jiahai, both from Raffles Institution. The Silver medallists are Koh Jin Ming and Ng Jian Rong, both from NUS High School of Mathematics and Science, and Lee Yu Tse from Raffles Institution.

10. The Singapore delegation was led by Associate Professor Rajdeep Singh Rawat from the National Institute of Education, Nanyang Technological University, Dr Lim Zhi Han from the National University of Singapore, Ms Sandar Felicity Lim from National Junior College, Mr Wong Chu Lin from Raffles Institution, and Dr Zhiming Darren Tan from the Ministry of Education. 57th International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO)

11. The Singapore team obtained four Gold medals and two Silver medals at the 57th IMO held in Hong Kong SAR, China, from 6 to 16 July 2016. Singapore was placed 4th in a field of 568 participants from 109 countries.

12. The Gold medallists are Dylan Toh Shan Hong from NUS High School of Mathematics and Science, Glen Lim Wei An, Sheldon Kieren Tan and Ma Zhao Yu, all from Raffles Institution. The Silver medallists are Bryan Wang Peng Jun from Hwa Chong Institution, and Joel Tan Junyao from NUS High School of Mathematics and Science.

28th International Olympiad in Informatics (IOI)

14. The Singapore team obtained one Gold medal, two Silver medals and one Bronze medal at the 28th IOI held in Kazan, Russia from 12 August to 19 August 2016. Singapore was placed 9th in a field of 306 student participants from 84 countries.

15. The Gold medallist is Teo Por Loong, Jacob from NUS High School of Mathematics and Science. The Silver medallists are Clarence Chew Xuan Da from NUS High School of Mathematics and Science and Pang Wen Yuen from Raffles Institution. The Bronze medalist is Zhang Guangxuan from Raffles Institution.
