Let the width be 16 units. The height will be 9 units.

The length of the diagonal will hence be β(16^2 + 9^2) units = β(337) units.

Since the TV is 50 inches, the length of the diagonal is 50 inches.

β(337) units = 50 inches = (50/39.37) metres

Therefore, 1 unit = (50/39.37)/β(337)

Width = 16 units = 16((50/39.37)/β(337)) = 1.11 metres (3 s.f.)

EDIT: I believe part (c.) should be doable this way:

tan(35 deg) = (opposite)/(adjacent).

The length of the opposite will be the height of half the TV, i.e. 62.2/2 metres.

The length of the adjacent will be the distance of the sofa from the TV.

But I’m not sure, since they included the height of the mounting and I’m not sure how that’s relevant.

The answer for part c is 1.14mπ

a) i) 2.2m = 2.2*39.37″ = 86.614″

ii) S = 0.55D = 0.55*86.614 = 47.6377 = 48″

iii) M = E + D * 0.22 = 1.1 + 2.2x 0.22 = 1.584m
