Question

Answer

25. Let M be the amount of money Gregory has at first.

4/9(M – 135) = 2/9(M)
M – 135 = (9/4) (2/9)(M)
M – 135 = M/2
2M – 270 = M
M = 270 #

Thanks Priskhipo!

Here’s my attempt using equations:

24.

Let x be the amount of stamps each person gives away.

(168 – x) / (213 – x) = 3/8
8 (168 – x) = 3 (213 – x)
1344 – 8x = 639 – 3x
So, 5x = 705
=> x = 141

So together, the number of stamps given away is 141*2 = 282 #
