Question

There were some children in a school hall. During recess, 3/7 of the boys and 7/9 of the girls left the hall. There was now an equal number of boys and girls in the hall. If 44 more girls than boys left the hall, how many children were there in the hall at first?

please advise on the above question. Thank you

Answer

                                         <——– Left the hall————–>

Boys——-[u][u][u][u]     [u][u][u]<————44————–>            Total = 7u

                 <–4/7—->     <–3/7-><————11u————>

Girls——-[u][u][u][u]     [u][u][u][u][u][u][u][u][u][u][u][u]             Total = 18u

                 <–4/18—>     <—————–14/18—————->

2/9 = 4/18,    14/18 = 7/9

4/7 boys = 2/9 girls  = 4/18 girls

11u = 44

u = 4

Therefore,  children in the hall at first = 7u + 18u = 25u = 25 x 4 = 100
