Question

Answer

Flour bought = (4/5) kg

Flour used to bake cake = (1/2) kg

Flour used to bake cookies = (1/4) x (4/5) = (1/5) kg

Flour left = (4/5) – (1/2)  – (1/5) = (8-5-2)/10 = 1/10 kg

James used 3/4 of the flour (1/2 + 1/4).

Amount of flour left = 1/4 (4/5) = 1/5 kg #

Chief,  you got tricked by the question.  They always do that to confuse an actual weight value and a fraction of the total weight.

(1/2) kg is the actual weight of the flour used to bake cakes

(1/4) is the fraction of the original total flour.
