Answer

 Solution:

                 <——–Bag——–><-Shoes-><scarf=225–><——————5u – 225 = R———————->

Salary       [       u       ][       u      ][       u       ][       u      ][       u       ][       u      ][       u       ][       u      ]

                                                                                           <——(2/5)R—><——(3/5)R——————>

                                                                                                                     <——-180+(3/10)(8u)—->

Total salary = 8u

180+(3/10)(8u) = (3/5)(5u-225)            (both sides  x 10)

1800 + 24u = 30u – 1350

6u = 3150

u = 525

Hence Jolene’s salary = 8u = 8 x 525 = $4200

**********************************************************************

Explanation:

2u/8u = 1/4 on Bag ,  1/6 of remaining money on shoes = u,  Scarf=225,    Left (R)= 5u-225

2/5 of money left is given to Mother,  Final Left = (3/5)(5u-225)

Given to Son + left of total salary  = 180+(3/10)(8u)

Check:

Bag = 2u =  1050

Shoes = u = 525

Scarf = 225

Son = 180

Mother =  (2/5)(5×525 – 225) = 960

Salary left = (3/10)(4200) =  1260

Total salary = 1050+525+225+180+960+1260 = 4200
