Susan had $120 and Patrick had twice as much as money as her at first. Susan received some money and Patrick sspent some money. The amount Susan received was 3 times as much as the amount Patrick spent. They had the same amount of money in the end. How much did Susan received?

The amount received by Susan is represented by the 3 yellow boxes marked u. The amount spent by Patrick is the light green box marked with u. The blue vertical line indicates that the amounts are the same in the end. We see that 4u = 120 and so u = 30.

So Susan received 3u = $90.
