 # Question

At a carnival,\$11 500 was collected from the sale of tickets.The amount collected from the sale of child tickets is \$3500 more sale of adult tickets.

a)How much was collected from the sale of adults tickets?

b)The ratio of the number of adults tickets sold to the number of children tickets sold is 1:3.The cost of an adult ticket is \$30 more that the cost of a child ticket.How many adult tickets were sold.

How to tackle this question?

(a)                Ticket sales

Child      [u]

Total ticket sales = 11500

2u+3500 = 11500

2u = 8000  => u = 4000

(b)                   Ticket Qty                Ticket Price

Child             3p                              c

3pc = 7500  => pc = 2500

p(c+30) = 4000

pc + 30p = 4000

2500 + 30p = 4000

p = 1500/30 = 50

Hence number of adult tickets sold was 50

1. If adult ticket sales is 1U, then child sales is 1U+3500

Given total sales 11500

1U+1U+3500=11500

2U=8000

U=4000

So \$4000 was collected from sales of adult ticket.

1. If number of adult tickets sold is N, then number of child tickets sold is 3N

If price of 1 child ticket is P, then price of 1 adult ticket is P+30

3NP= 4000+3500=7500

NP=2500

N*(P+30)= 4000

2500+30N=4000

30N=1500

N=50

So 50 adult tickets were sold.
