Question

Answer

If Mrs. Mok and Mrs Kang were given u days to sew same number of cushion covers,

Mrs. Mok will take u + 5  days at speed of 24 cushion covers/ day to finish and Mr. Kang will take u – 4 days at speed of 30 cushion covers /day to finish.

Since they completed the same number of covers,

24 ( u + 5) = 30 ( u – 4)

24u + 120 = 30u – 120

6u = 240

u = 40

 They were given 40 days to finish sewing the cushions.

Check: 24 * 45 = 1080 = 30 * 36

Let d be the number of days required for sewing.

Mrs Mok: 24(d + 5) = 24d + 120

Mrs Kang: 30(d – 4) = 30d – 120

Since the number of cushion covers were the same:

24d + 120 = 30d – 120

24d + 240 = 30d

6d = 240

d = 240 ÷ 6

= 40 (Answer)
