Question

A man set off from Town A towards Town B.If he trave at 60km/h,he will arrive
at Town B by 12.30p.m.If he increases his speed by 20km/h,he will arrive at Town B by 11.45a.m. How fast much he to travel to arrive at Town B by noon ?

Answer

If it takes t hours for the man who travelled at 60 km/h to reach Town B, it takes him  t – 45/60 = t – 3/4 hours to reach town B by travelling at 80 km/h . 

60t = 80( t- 3/4) = 80t – 60

20t = 60

t = 3

So the speed required for the man to travel to reach town B at noon

= (3 * 60 ) / (5/2)

= 180 * 2/5

= 72 km/h

Note : 3 * 60 = 180km  is the total distance between town A and B  and the time required to reach at noon was 2 1/2 hours calculate by 3 – 1/2 = 2 1/2 hours.
