Question

Answer

Given Mr. Ang had just enough money to buy 21 packets of rice or 63 packets of flour, if each flour costs $u, Mr Ang had $63u.

Each packet of rice costs = 63u/21 = 3u

8 * 3u + 21u + 57.6 = 63u

45u + 57.6 = 63u

18u = 57.6

u = 3.2

3u = 9.6

Each rice costs $9.6

(b)  If Mrs. Wen bought n packets of flour, she bought ( 6-n) packets of rice.

3.2n + 9.6( 6 – n ) = 32

57.6 – 6.4n = 32

6.4n = 25.6

n = 4

Mrs Wen bought 4 packets of flour.
