Question

Answer

(a) Note: the pump is used to suck out or drain water from the tank, so the graph shows the decrease in the water volume after pump started working.

In 40 minutes, decreased in water volume = 800 -400 = 400 litre.

So Volume of water drained per minute = 400/40 = 10 litre/ minute

(b)Time taken = Volume of water/ Rate of water drained

= 800/10 minute

= 80 minutes

Since 1 hour = 60 minutes

= 80/60 hour

=1 hour and 20/60 * 60 minutes

= 1 hour and 20 minutes
