Question

A baker had a bag of flour to bake a certain number of cakes. He wanted to use 1.2kg of flour for each cake, and realised that he would have 3.8kg of flour left after baking. He decided to increase the amount of flour to 1.5kg for each cake, but realised that he would be short of 1kg of flour.
a) How many cakes did he want to bake?
b) How many kilograms of flour did he have?
How to do ?
Tks

Answer

(a)

If the baker wanted to bake u cakes,

1.2u + 3,8 = 1.5u – 1

0.3u = 4.8

u = 16

So the baker wanted to bake 16 cakes.

(b)

1.5u – 1 = 24 – 1 = 23

He had 23 kg of flour.
