How to do?

Answer

(a) Sale of ducks were $5.6 more than sales of chickens,

sales of ducks + sales of ducks- 5.6 = 408.8

Sales of ducks = (408.8 +5.6)/2 = 204.4 + 2.8 = 207.2

Sales of duck was $207.2.

Check : Sales of chicken = 207.2 – 5.6 = 201.6  , 201.6 + 207.2 = 408.8 checked.

(b) If u ducks were sold, 3u chicken were sold.

Cost of a duck = 207.2/u

Cost of a chicken = 201.6/3u

207.2/u = 201.6/3u + 10                 multiply both sides by 3u

621.6 = 201.6 + 30u

30u = 420

u = 14

He sold 14 ducks.
