If container A holds u litres,  container B holds ( u – 1.16) litres and container C holds 2u litres.

u + ( u – 1.16) + 2u = 12.68

4u – 1.16 = 12.68             add 1.16 on both sides

4u = 13.84

u = 3.46

3.46 – 1.16 = 3.3

3.3 litre = 3300 millilitres.

So container B can hold 3300 millilitres.
